Guidance

Juniors:  Start looking at colleges and visit the website www.collegeboard.com to find the dates for the SAT administration.  Also consider taking the ACT and visit the website www.actstudent.org 

Seniors:  Visit the websites www.collegeboard.com and www.actstudent.org to find the dates for the SAT and ACT administration.  Finalize your decisions about college choices.  Obtain the applications and be familiar with what is needed for those applications.  Complete the College Counseling Form for Mrs. Mahaney and schedule an appointment with her soon.  Start asking teachers to write recommendations for you.  Think about Early Action and Early Decision for applying to schools and pay attention to deadlines.  FASFA forms are available in my office.

Walmart Foundation is sponsoring a Sam Walton Community Scholarship from November 1, 2006 - January 12, 2007. Please visit www.walmartfoundation.org for details. The access code (SWCS) mus be used to access this application process.

The Best Buy Scholarship is sponsored by the Best Buy Children's Foundation and is administered by Scholarship America. Visit www.BestBuy.com./scholarships. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2007.

The Colonial Agricultural Educational Foundation, Inc. will offer 94 scholarships for the 2006-2007 academic year. Please visit www.colonialfarmcredit.com then click on "Scholarships" link on the left. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2007.

The Blackstone Woman's Club is offering a $250 scholarship to a graduating high school senior, who has a Blackstone mailing address, and plans to attend College /University in Fall 2007. Please see Mrs. Mahaney for the application. Deadline is May 10, 2007.

Kohl's Kids Who Care Recognition Program acknowledges those who transform their communities for the better. Visit www.kohlscorporation.com for scholarship information. The entry deadline is March 15, 2007.

The Delegate Tommy Wright Legistlative Scholarship is open to graduating seniors who live in the 61st Legislative District. Dr. Allen and Mrs. Mahaney have the applications. The deadline is Saturday, April 29, 2007.

Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative is sponsoring a scholarship program to seniors. Please see Mrs. Mahaney for details. The deadline is April 30, 2007.

 

Summer Programs

Southside Electric Cooperative is sponsoring high school juniors to the 2007 Rural Electric Washington Youth Tour that will be held June 10-14, 2007. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Mahaney.
