Retaking Courses / Taking External Courses for Credit
Failure of a course taken at
Kenston Forest School.
Student schedule
permitting, a student may take a failed course over again at Kenston Forest
School. In these cases, the original course grade and second course grade are
averaged together for the grade average. One (1) credit toward graduation is
awarded for successful completion of the course.
With prior
approval from Kenston Forest School, a student may retake a failed course at an
institution external to Kenston Forest School via summer or evening classes. In
these cases, the original grade is retained in the Kenston Forest School grade
average. One (1) credit toward graduation is awarded for successful completion
of the course. The transcript from the external institution (reflecting the
course retake) is attached to Kenston Forest School transcripts.
Low
passing score of a course taken at Kenston Forest School.
Student schedule
permitting, a student may take a course previously passed with a low score over
again at Kenston Forest School. In these cases, the original course grade and
second course grade are averaged together for grade averages. One (1) credit
toward graduation is awarded for successful completion of the course (i.e.,
passing the course twice earns a total of one (1) credit).
With prior
approval from Kenston Forest School, a student who completes a course with a low
passing score may retake the course at an institution external to Kenston Forest
School via summer or evening classes. In these cases, the original grade is
retained in the Kenston Forest School grade average. The transcript from the
external institution (reflecting the course retake) is attached to Kenston
Forest School transcripts.
Courses
taken for the first time at external institutions.
With prior
approval from Kenston Forest School, a student may take new courses from an
external institution via summer or evening classes for graduation credit.
Credits must be obtained from approved postsecondary institutions, not other
high schools*. Generally, a Kenston Forest School half credit (½) is awarded
for a standard semester-length, 3 credit hour class; therefore, two of these
classes would be required to be considered equivalent to a standard Kenston
Forest School year-long course.
For these new
courses, transfer credit may be awarded toward graduation, but the grades from
the external institutions do not factor into Kenston Forest School grade
averages. The transcript from the external institution is attached to Kenston
Forest School transcripts.
In special
circumstances, a single semester-length postsecondary course, while only
transferring a half (1/2) credit toward graduation, can fulfill requirements as
a prerequisite. For example, with prior approval, a single semester of college
Precalculus may serve as the prerequisite for calculus taken at Kenston Forest
School.
*High school
courses taken externally via Congressional Page programs, formal exchange
programs, and courses taken in special circumstances (e.g., catastrophic health
situations) may earn credit.
