Caps
When your child (grades K-6) reaches a designated classroom goal, he or she will
earn a ball cap (K will start after Christmas). After the caps are earned, a
star is added to the cap for every 5 points earned thereafter. We also have a
special Kenston Forest pin for students who earn 200 points. The Student
Government Association has initially funded this project, but we ask that each
child send in $2.00 when they earn their cap. The money will go straight back
into the Accelerated Reader program to help fund our other projects. The caps
will remain at school. We will have "HAT DAYS" on Wednesdays when the children
may wear their hats all day. They will also wear them to all lower school awards
assemblies. Please let us know if you are available to help us put stars on the
caps on Fridays.
Displays
We have a new bulletin board display in the upper school building across from
the library. Students' names are displayed by grade when they reach each
point level (10, 15, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, etc.). Please stop by and
check out all the readers we have at Kenston Forest!
We are also working on a new display for the cafeteria that will highlight the
different point levels that the students have reached. We need volunteers
willing to help us take digital pictures of all our readers and help us make the
stars we will use. Let us know if you are available to help.
Point Club Parties
We have several end of the year celebrations planned for students who earn the
following points:
50 Points - Ice Cream Sundae Party
75 Points - Pizza Party / Game Day
100 Points (Grade 2 and below) or 150 Points (Grade 3 and higher) - $10 gift
certificate to your choice of King's Dominion, Wal-Mart, Target, or Barnes
and Noble
Kings Dominion
We will offer the opportunity for students to earn a trip to King's
Dominion early in the summer ($10.00 towards the ticket) if they earn the
following points: 100 Points (Grade 2 and below) or 150 Points (Grade 3
and higher).
Tailgate Party
This lower school event is scheduled for the end of the school year.
We have set a lower school-wide goal (K-7) of 15,000 points. If we reach this
goal by May 1, 2006, we will have a Tailgate Party! Students invited to the
Tailgate Party must have earned their hat or the points required for their hat.
Activities include a performance by juggler Jonathan Austin and a cookout (hot
dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks, and dessert). We welcome volunteers to help
with the cookout and donations of food or drinks. Please let us know if you can
help.
