Earth science, physical science, and life science are all part of the second grade curriculum. Students participate through group work, experimentation, observation, and by making predictions, comparisons, and classifications. Several projects completed during the school year require the use of recently acquired research skills. The students present their projects in both oral and written form.
Second graders enjoy physical education and have weekly classes in library, art, music, and Spanish. Field trips may include visits to Maymont Park, Swift Creek Mill Playhouse, and the Landmark Theater. Students participate in a school-wide Christmas program, May Day activities, and a partnership program with fourth grade called Reading Buddies. As a community service project, the class visits Heritage Hall Nursing Home each month for reading, crafts, songs, and games with the residents. Kenston Forest School second graders are very busy learning in a variety of ways!
