To jog your memory and provide a little nostalgia, here are a few significant events that occurred in our graduation year.
Major Events of 2004
George Bush defeats John Kerry in the US presidential election.
Spaceship One becomes the first privately funded craft to achieve space flight.
Martha Stewart goes to jail.
On December 26th, an earthquake in Indian Ocean off the west coast of Sumatra in Indonesia, measuring 9.3 on the Richter Scale creates tsunami waves that sweep across much of the coastlines of Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. At least 290,000 people are killed.
The official opening of Taipei 101, the tallest skyscraper in the world standing 1,676 feet (508 meters).
First democratic elections held in Afghanistan.
Mozilla Firefox 1.0 released.
The Nintendo DS is released in the USA and Canada.
Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia join the European Union.
